England vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test, Day 1: Joe Root’s 143 runs

Eng vs SL 2nd Test Day 1

After a thrilling 1st at Manchester, England and Sri Lanka are up against each other for the 2nd Test of the series at the home of cricket, Lords. On the 1st day, Sri Lanka had a good start with the ball getting 2 early wickets. Joe Root’s 143 runs and Atkinson’s 74-run surprising inning saved England’s innings with their brilliant batting.

Day 1 Overview:

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field first. Proven to be a good decision in the start, as they got 2 early wickets at 42 runs.Ollie Pope the England’s skipper, got out for 1 run. He had a very bad series going on; maybe the captaincy added more pressure on him. He is England’s most consistent batter in the middle. Ben Duckett scored 40 runs and got out at a score of 82.

Joe Root’s Ton

England kept losing wickets from one end, but Joe Root has saved the wicket from the other end. He played really well and scored 143 runs. Lord’s is his favourite ground I think so, as he equaled the record of most hundreds at the Lord’s stadium. He is scoring runs consistently for England as he is in a race to score the highest runs in test cricket history. He saved England’s strugling batting line.

Gus Atkinson came as a surprise with the bat. He played a great knock along with Joe root. An aggressive inning from him put Sri Lanka under pressure. He scored 74* runs on 81 balls 4 sixes and 5 fours were included in his innings. At the end of the day, England’s score is 358/7. Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and Milan Rathnayake were prominent with the bowl; they took 2 wickets each.
