Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl. The match started late due to a wet outfield in Rawalpindi. It was a difficult pitch to bat on, and Bangladesh’s decision to bowl proved to be successful. Pakistan came to bat, and the top order struggled against Bangladesh’s inexperienced fast bowling attack.
Day Overview
Pakistan came to bat and lost early wickets while batting on a lush green track. Opener Abdullah Shafiq got out just for 2 runs. Then Skipper Shan Masood was given out on a controversial call by the third umpire. Babar Azam came to bat and unfortunately, he got on a duck. It was a big setback for Pakistan as they were 16-3.

On Shoriful Islam‘s delivery, a caught behind appeal against Shan Masood was given not out by the onfield umpire. Bangladesh reviewed the decision and when the third umpire looked at it closely on the sniko meter, it was clearly not out because the bowl hit the bat and missed the bat, as clearly seen in the picture. The third umpire gave it out, and Shan Masood and the Pakistan team were furious about this decision as it was a clear not out, but third umpire Michael Gough had the opposite decision.
Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub’s partnership
Saud Shakeel, the vice captain, came to the crease, and he started to settle on the pitch with Saim Ayub. Saim Ayub has a difficult career so far; he was hyped as a promising young talent but failed to fire on the international stage. Today he played a responsible knock with the vice captain and stabilized a collapsing Pakistan batting. They put on a 98-run partnership, then Saim Ayub got out after scoring 56(98). Saud Shakeel continued his batting with M. Rizwan, and he was not out at 57 at the end of the day.
