We have witnessed a great game of Test cricket. It was a very close encounter in which we had no idea who was the favorite. In the end, South Africa won it as luck favoured them as two umpire’s calls went their way. Guyana’s pitch was very difficult to bat on from the very first day. In the first inning, both teams got out on low scores. Read this article for reference: SHAMAR JOSEPH 5 WICKETS AT HOME, BUT SA STRIKES BACK STRONG
South Africa 2nd Inning
In the 2nd inning, SA had a lead of 16 runs, and they started to bat openers put on a decent start on a difficult pitch. Aiden Markram scored 51 runs; it was a captain’s inning. Kyle Verreynne was impressive with the bat, and he scored 59 runs. SA was 224/5 at point and then WI started the counter attack within 22 runs SA lost 5 wickets and were all out for 246. Jayden Seales was impressive with the bowl; he got 6/69 in the inning, and 9/106 are his match figures.
West Indies 2nd Inning
West Indies had to chase 263 and they lost an early wicket when they started their inning. A partnership between K. Brathwaite and K. Carty started to build, but K. Brathwaite got out. WI couldn’t hold the wickets, and at 106, they were 6 down. A counterattack was started by Joshua Da Silva and Gudakesh Motie. At one point, we were thinking that WI will win this encounter from here but then the tragedy started. Keshav Maharaj came to bowl, and an LBW appeal against Gudakesh Motie was given out. When the decision was reviewed, it was the umpire’s call, and he had to walk back to the pavillion after scoring 45 (59), a brave knock.
It didn’t end here; in Keshav Maharaj’s next over, another appeal against Joshua Da Silva was given out by Ahsan Raza. The decision was reviewed, and unfortunately, it was another umpire’s call, and Da Silva had to go. Two umpire calls went South Africa’s way, and that was it for the West Indies. The tailenders added some more runs to the total, and it ended at 222. SA won by 40 runs and won the series as well. They jumped 2 positions in the points table of the World Test Championship 2023–25.
