South Africa Cricket has announced the squad for the T20 series against the West Indies. Some big names from South Africa are missing in this squad, and everyone is shocked to see that. After a successful T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, they’ve changed the squad, which is surprising. They were unbeaten in the whole tournament but just missed the mark in the final against India. Overall, it was a great performance by South Africa.
They opted for a young team this time and gave chances to some new faces to showcase their talent. It can be a good decision to test their backup players and prepare them for the future. Due to this selection, some senior players may be unhappy. Temba Bavuma was asked about his exclusion from the T20 squad, and he looked unhappy, but he said he is more focused on Test cricket now. He is doing really well in Test cricket these days, and he performed against the West Indies in this series.
Temba Bavuma’s words while talking to the media about the T20 squad announcement:
“It’s not a surprise that I’m not there, but me being in the T20 squad would’ve raised more eyebrows. It’s better that way that I’m not there. My focus now is on Test cricket, and I’m going to try to play as well as I can in the format. There’s also 50-over cricket that’s coming in the next few months, and the one thing that I can trust is that if I get going in Test and 50-over cricket, everything else will follow from there.”
